From July 31st to August 1st, the 4th (2023) Advanced Molecular Breeding Technology Symposium organized by MolBreeding Biotechnology Co., Ltd. was held in Shijiazhuang, China. This symposium gathered the top global experts and scholars in molecular breeding, as well as key representatives from the fields of agricultural technology and finance, to extensively discuss and exchange ideas on cutting-edge molecular breeding technologies, and collectively explore the current status, challenges and future development directions of molecular breeding.
Nearly 500 representatives from 155 institutions from 28 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the country participated in the symposium, including 25 universities, 34 research institutes, 75 seed-related companies, 21 investment and government organizations.
Under the theme of "Industry Collaboration for the New Development of Molecular Breeding", this symposium covered the latest research achievements and application cases of molecular breeding technologies in major crops, livestock, poultry, aquatic and other species, focusing on areas such as improvement of desirable traits, disease and pest resistance breeding, and quality enhancement. Distinguished experts shared their development and application of new technologies, materials, and methods in molecular breeding. Additionally, in-depth discussions were held on product safety and variety right protection in the field of molecular breeding, with the aim of promoting the more solid and large-scale application of molecular technology in the field of animal and plant breeding.
A Rendezvous Amidst the Storm
On the morning of July 30th, despite the disruptions in flights and high-speed trains caused by the impact of Typhoon "Dusu Rui," the registration hall was abuzz with busy figures. This torrential rain did not dampen the enthusiasm of breeders from all over the country, rather it added a heightened sense of longing and determination to explore and embrace modern molecular breeding.
Grand opening
At 8:30 a.m. on July 31st, the 4th Advanced Molecular Breeding Technology Symposium commenced in a solemn and vibrant atmosphere.
The opening ceremony featured a keynote speech by Dr. Yunbi Xu from CIMMYT-China. Dr. Xu highlighted that this symposium aims to integrate outstanding talents, technologies, and resources from both domestic and international sectors to promote the deep integration of molecular breeding technology and industry, ultimately achieving more efficient and precise breeding goals. He emphasized the importance of industry collaboration and expressed his hopes of establishing closer cooperation among participants to enhance the integrity and sustainable development of the biological seed industry chain.
Animaland Plant Molecular Breeding
General report
A total of 27 renowned experts were invited todeliver presentations at the symposium, including 10 animal experts who covered comprehensive reports and specialized topics related to dairy cattle, beef cattle, pigs, sheep, chickens, ducks, large yellow croakers, and shrimp. Additionally, 10 plant experts provided comprehensive reports and specialized topics on maize, rice, wheat, and soybeans. The remaining 7 experts included professionals in technologies and platforms, covering areas such as common techniques, genotyping, breeding platforms, information systems, and decision support. The expert presentations covered a wide range of theoretical, technical, methodological, and practical aspects of molecular breeding in major crops, livestock, poultry, and aquatic organisms.
A specially designed roundtable forum was organized during this symposium, inviting five industry representatives from three companies, one institution, and one expert to discuss and exchange ideas on the current status, challenges, and future development of the "Industrialization of Biological Breeding". The five participants in the forum were Dr. Yunbi Xu from CIMMYT-China, Zhang Jianan, the founder and chairman of MolBreeding Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Pang Jie, Vice President of Beijing Dabeinong Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Su Zhiqiang, Executive Director of Ali Health Investment Department, and Ye Jian, CEO of Novoseed and Dean of the New Growing Research Institute, presenting a comprehensive panorama of the biological breeding industry chain.
